Incredible Sale at Maui Clothing Company Outlet

Every summer Maui Clothing Company's Outlet store has the blow out sale of the year. With over 10 stores on the island the outlet has a large selection of mens and womens. The sale started yesterday and it is 30% off their already marked down prices.

I purchased two $120 bathing suits for $14 each! They have shoes on sale too.

Maui Clothing Company Outlet is in the Gateway Plaza behind the Tesoro on the Piilani Highway in Kihei. (808) 875-0308

Best deals on Flights. And believe me they are hard to find!

I recently started a short term rental in a sweet condo off of Kamaole 3 beach in Kihei. Many of the emails I have been receiving from potential visitors have lamented about the cost of a plane ticket and how hard they are to find.

Here is what my research has found:

*** San Francisco people are really out of luck I found a cheaper round trip from Newark New Jersey! If you do not want to spend $1000 plus try going through Oakland where you can get a fare for $850.

*** Los Angeles people same bad deal. Try Monday July 7th or Wednesday July 9th, on Delta Flight 1477 for $889

*** Can't believe I am saying this but New Yorkers you can get $812 on United 819 from Orbitz from Newark. Sure that will not last so book quickly.

*** Seattle is consistent on Hawaiian Airlines most days for $620

*** Portland also consistent on Hawaiian at $669

***People were saying they flew to Phoenix from San Fran to catch a cheaper flight but I could only find $854 and up on Hawaiian Airlines.

***If you are flexible on the dates I recommend hotwire.com they have a great search that lets you see flights over a period of time.

The only bright spot is that farecast.com is predicting flights will go down in price.
We all hope soon.

Find a good fare? Please be sure to let us all know.
Looking for a great rental when you get here check out my $80 a night deal for June.

What fun! Free Events at the Maui Film Festival!

Mid June means that it is time for the Maui Film Festival. From June 11th through the 15th the island will be full of stars and movies in many venues.

Did you know there are many free events to enjoy. That’s right FREE. Look for films at these three venues Starlight Cinema, SandDance Theater and Phoebe in Wonderland a Special Event at the Sky Dome Theater.

On June 11th at 8pm come to the Starlight Cinema to enjoy a night under the stars at Mokapu Beach in front of the new Baccarat. The night starts with Humpback Code a breathtaking documentary which unravels some of the mystery of the social life of the Hawaiian Humpback Whales. Then enjoy a live tour of the cosmos with Maui’s Harriet Witt an expert in astronomy, Polynesian celestial folklore. End the night with Hawaiian Starlight outstanding true color images from the summit of Mauna Kea.

On June 12th, 13th , 14th and 15th at 8pm the SandDance Theater on Wailea Beach will host free events. On the 12th families can enjoy a night out under the stars watching the Little Mermaid. The 14th you can watch Explore! A shorts showcase that takes you from Hawaiian Surfing to India and China. And the 15th features the Live Earth Showcase with shorts about global warming and the environment. Don’t worry there are a few with a twist of humor.

The most anticipated of free events will be June 13th at the Skydome Theater at the Wailea Beach Marriott. At 8pm enjoy Phoebe in Wonderland the newest film featuring Felicity Huffman. The film stars Elle Fanning as a little girl who won't, or can't, follow the rules and seeks enlightenment from her unconventional drama teacher.

Felicity Huffman will be one of the movie stars receiving awards at the film festival so chances are you will be able to spot her at this event.

The Maui Film Festival runs from June 11th through the 15th and you can get more information about these and other events by going to their website www.mauifilmfestival.com

3 Top Maui Meal Deals in Kihei

By Stephanie Sachs

Whether you are staying in a Kihei Condo or a Hawaiian Vacation Hotel, Maui can certainly be expensive. Plus you can easily end up in a tourist trap and spend good money for bad food. Being an artist I always look for clean food on a budget. Here are some of my favs.

1. Wok Star - This brand new international noodle shop just opened in Kalama Village at the corner of South Kihei and Halalani Place near Foodland. I love the udon noodle and my husband, Bob, likes the Indonesian peanut sauce. Pick your noodle, sauce and protein. Starts at $9.

Address: 1913 S. Kihei Rd., Kihei, HI 96753 Phone: (808) 495-0066 Cuisine: Asian, Chinese, Thai Hours: 7 am to Midnight Daily

2.Jawz - Tried and true. Clean Mexican with a wonderful array of fixings at their salsa bar. I am not crazy about their fish but I do enjoy their enchilada pie and soft corn tacos with steak. Located at the back of Azeka’s II 1279 South Kihei Road. Air conditioned, which is a plus in Kihei. Most items under $10.

Address: 1279 S Kihei Rd Kihei, HI 96753-5228 Phone: (808) 874-8226 Cuisine: Grill Hours: 11 am to 9 pm daily; Happy Hour 3 pm to 6 pm Monday through Saturday

3. Sansei - Yes, sushi can be expensive but you have to know when the locals go to get the dakine deal. On Sunday and Monday, sushi appetizers and entrees are 50% off from 5 to 6pm and 25% off on Tuesday through Saturday from 5:30 to 6pm. Be sure to get there no later than 4:30, or even earlier during season. Bring a beach chair and a book or enjoy meeting local people all waiting on line and happy about eating a great meal at a killer price. On Thursday, Friday, and Saturday after 10pm, sushi and appetizers are 50% off plus they offer drink specials. Free Karaoke at night which can be a mixed blessing.

Address: 1881 S Kihei Rd Kihei, HI 96753 Phone: (808) 879-0004 Cuisine: Seafood and Sushi Hours: Dinner nightly

Please feel free to comment on these and add your own suggestions.
